Maka`ala

By Nadine Ramelb

An oil or acrylic painting on canvas of a traditional hula dancer with her eyes softly closed in a moment of focus or reflection. The style features expressive, fluid brushstrokes and a warm color palette. The dancer has long, flowing brown hair and is adorned with a large lei poʻo (head lei) and a matching lei āʻī (neck lei) woven from green foliage and magenta flowers. Her right hand is raised to the side with her palm facing forward, showing a leafy lei kūpeʻe (wristlet) around her wrist. Her body is turned slightly to the side, and the abstract background blends soft earth tones of brown, ochre, and muted green.
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 16″ x 12″
